Forbes has released it’s annual Highest Paid Actress list and LaLa Land star Emma Stone has dethroned fellow Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence for the coveted top spot.
In a year that saw a drop in earnings for most the lists top 10, Stone saw a 160% increase thanks to the phenomenal success of LaLa Land which netted her around $26 million for the year.
Jennifer Lawrence on the other hand, who drops to number 3 on the list, took home earnings of $24 million, a sizeable drop from the $40 million she earned last year thanks to the huge commercial success of The Hunger Games franchise.
One surprising addition to the list is that of Jennifer Aniston, who takes the second spot with $25.5 million, despite only starring in one film this year, The Yellow Birds. The majority of Aniston’s earnings are thanks to endorcements with the likes of Emirates Airlines and SmartWater who pay the former Friend’s star a considerable pay-packet for her image rights.
The top 10 actresses this year earned a combined total of $172.5 million, although there was a decrease in the number of actresses who passed the $20 million mark – a sure sign that Hollywood studios are still relying more on male actors to make the big bucks at the global box office.
However the future of Forbes list could be about to change thanks to the recent success of Wonder Woman, which has finally made Hollywood sit up and take notice of the box office power women hold with audiences.
