It goes without saying that Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be a colossal hit when it opens in cinemas around the world next month – but with Marvel Studios now in the driving seat once again, the movie’s success is so widely tipped that a trilogy is already in the works.
A sequel has already been confirmed prior to the release of ‘Homecoming’ but Tom Holland, the film’s star, accidentaly let slip plans for the trilogy during a recent interview.
Many are already convinced that the trilogy will follow Peter Parker through his high school career, and contrary to it’s predecessors, will ditch the origins story all together. A very wise choice from Marvel considering we all know the events so well by now thanks to the movies starring Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Besides there’s perhaps a better reason for skipping the beginning of Spider-Man’s origins and it all comes down to Spider-Man’s central involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Even though it’s yet to be confirmed, if rumours are to be believed then Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will have a key role in the upcoming mega-blockbuster, healing the divides caused in Captain America: Civil War and leading the Avengers in their fight against Thanos.
