Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is all but complete after the majority of filming concluded last week and now director James Gunn has given us an insight into the core theme of the hotly anticipated sequel… Family.
As Marvel’s standout film in recent years, Guardians of the Galaxy helped take the Marvel Cinematic Universe to new intergalactic heights and formed one of the most intriguingly dynamically and dysfunctional families in the universe – a theme that James Gunn has confirmed will be heavily present in Vol. 2.
“And that’s one of the things that this movie is about. The first movie was really about becoming a family. This movie is about being a family. And what’s harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it’s being a family. That’s where you really have to deal with each other. And that’s what this movie is about. And their sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister.” – James Gunn
The next installment in the franchise will delve deeper into the backgrounds of each Guardian, specifically Chris Pratt‘s character Peter Quill (Star Lord) who’ll finally come face to face with his mysterious father, who’ll be played by Kurt Russell.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will definitely be one of the most exciting releases of next year, especially if Vin Diesel’s recent reaction to test footage is anything to go by. GOTGV2 hits cinemas worldwide from 5 May 2017.
