Now that most of us have got over the brutal and unexpected demise of Colin Firth in 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, we can start to look forward to the man’s return for the highly anticipated sequel which promises to deliver a massive surprise for all of us.
The newly formed action superstar was confirmed for Kingsman: The Golden Circle earlier in the year when a series of cryptic tweets, showing Harry Hart’s glasses on top of the films official poster, teased a possible resurrection for the secret agent – the rumours where then confirmed when Game of Thrones very own Pedro Pascal uploaded a set photo of Firth to his Instagram account.
Now the Oscar-winner has spoken to Collider, albeit cryptically, of his return and how Matthew Vaughn is setting up a perfect return for Harry Hart to the franchise, who brutally killed him off before realising just how popular Colin Firth was in the role.
“Well, it’s still my duty to be cryptic about that, so forgive me in being creative in how I dodge that question. It’s no secret that I’m involved, somewhere and somehow. From what I’ve been able to gather, it’s not going to feel like a conventional sequel. It’s going to be something that feels very much its own thing. I’m very optimistic about it. I can’t give too much away about in what capacity I’m back. A lot of people have speculated and a lot of people have come to the wrong conclusions about it. I want to keep the surprise alive, a little longer. I think they’re going to be surprised again.” – Colin Firth
The plot of the film sees Agents Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) flee to the US when Kingsman HQ is all but destroyed by a new villain hellbent of destroying the world in some form or another.
Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry, Julian Moore, Channing Tatum and Sir Elton John have all joined the sequel, though some of their roles have remained under lock and key – most likely to avoid any potential surprise spoilers.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits cinemas everywhere on 16 June 2017.
