With $782.6 million in the bank, and critical-acclaim in abundance, Deadpool is by far the stand out film of 2016 – so it’s no surprise that Hollywood‘s elite are queuing up left right and center for a part in the hotly anticipated sequel alongside Ryan Reynolds.
One name that had been widely tipped for months in Avatar actor Stephen Lang, who we can’t deny shares an uncanny resemblance with the character depicted in the popular comic books.
The 63-year old actor has previously expressed his interest in the role when he took to Twitter to confirm fan rumours that he’d be the perfect choice – now though it appears the actor is casting doubt and may instead opt to reprise his role in James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar sequel.
“I think it’s highly unlikely that they would ever give me the part, for a number of reasons, one of which being that it’s the same studio as Avatar. It’s a conceivable it would be a scheduling conflict, but you know, what I’ve said is that if they did give me the part, they’d be very satisfied – because I’ll play the hell out of the part. But if they don’t give me the part, then I can be magnanimous in defeat, compliment the actor who does get the part, and console myself with four sequels to Avatar” – Stephen Lang
However it now appears that Twentieth Century Fox may have already chosen their Cable in the form on Zero Dark Thirty and Bloodline star Kyle Chandler, according to Mashable’s Senior Film Reporter Jeff Sneider;
“People were talking about Cable from Deadpool 2. There’s been a name floating around for Cable for months, hasn’t changed, don’t know if it’s changed. Didn’t make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler.” – Jeff Sneider
It’s certainly a choice none of us could have seen coming, and certainly one that would never have been predicted, but there must be a valid reason for this choice considering the character will likely play a large role in the upcoming sequel.
For those that aren’t familiar with Kyle Chandler, he’s best known for his Emmy award-winning performance as Coach Eric Taylor in the hit TV series Friday Night Lights, and can currently be seen in the Emmy nominated Netflix series Bloodline.
It’s worth noting that these casting rumours, are still in fact, rumours, as no casting decisions have yet been officially released by Twentieth Century Fox, except of course that Ryan Reynolds will be returning to the red suit.
Deadpool 2 is likely to begin production later this year in time for it’s 12 January 2018 release date.
