Fresh from it’s exclusive sneak peak at this year’s Comic Con International in San Diego, Spider-Man: Homecoming is straight back to business as production in Atlanta continues ahead of the films 2017 release – though it seems to have added an extra cast member.
According to ComicBook.com, Black Widow herself Scarlett Johansson has been spotted on the Pinewood Studios set, fueling speculation that the highly anticipated reboot has added another Avenger, with Robert Downey Jr already playing a major role in the movie alongside Tom Holland.
Of course it’s worth bearing in mind that no visual evidence has been released of the Hollywood actress on set, but considering the sources reputation for all thing’s superhero related, it’s not such a far stretch that Marvel and Sony Pictures would be looking to bolster the films star-power with another popular franchise character.
If Johansson is in fact filming on set, it’s highly likely that her involvement would be nothing more than a cameo considering production of Spider-Man: Homecoming is in the advanced stages now – still it would be awesome none-the-less.
With Spider-Man proving to be one of the most difficult franchises to get right on the big-screen, having been rebooted several times in recent years, Sony finally bit the bullet last years and sought the help of Marvel Studios when re-launching once again – something that proved to be a huge stepping stone for the popular franchise.
For those that don’t remember, Sony Pictures acquired the movie rights to Spider-Man back in 1999 after Marvel was forced to sell off some of it’s biggest franchises to other studios, including X-Men and The Fantastic Four, in order to fight off bankruptcy.
Now however, with Marvel becoming one of the most powerful studios in Hollywood, Sony has finally handed over creative control, allowing Marvel Studios to integrate one of the most famous Avengers into it’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Catch Spider-Man: Homecoming in cinemas worldwide from 7 July 2017.
