News has began filtering through that Warner Bros. Pictures has booked its gritty Tomb Raider reboot in for a March 2018 release date.
With recent Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander signed on for the role of worldwide adventurer Lara Croft, the hotly anticipated Tomb Raider reboot will follow the early origins of the famous video game character.
Based on same story as the 2013 video game reboot, Tomb Raider explore the events that made Lara Croft into the hardened warrior she’s portrayed as in the video games.
The Danish Girl star Alicia Vikander signed on for part a couple of months ago after a long casting process that saw Star Wars star Daisy Ridley emerge as the front runner until Vikander was finally confirmed, and will take over the part from fellow Oscar winner Angelina Jolie who saw her second time as Lara Croft flop at the box office back in 2003.
Warner Bros, who aquired the rights to Tomb Raider back on 2012, will be hoping their gritty and dark portrayal of the character will prove a success with audiences at the box office. With production due to begin later this year, it’s likely the studio will recruit more high profile names to join the cast in the coming months as it looks to bolster it’s chances of the number one spot.
Tomb Raider will hit cinemas worldwide from 16 March 2018.
