We seem to be in a new age of all-female reboots of popular Hollywood franchises – with Ghostbusters the latest movie to be overhauled with Bridesmaides stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy leading the cast.
Now it appears the all-female reboot of Ocean’s Eleven has stepped even closer to reality with Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence in talks to join fellow Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock who’s already confirmed for the project.
Considering Lawrence’s huge star status, and the fact that Hunger Games director Gary Ross is taking the helm, it’s no surprise she would be widely considered for a role – though what that role may be is still unknown.
Plot details are sketchy at the moment but previous trilogy director Steven Soderbergh, who’ll be producing the reboot/sequel has confirmed that Sandra Bullock will play the sister of George Clonney‘s Danny Ocean character, leading some to believe the film may in fact be a sequel rather than straight reboot.
Many online sources have been quick to speculate on Lawrence’s potential role, with the most likely, a character similar to that portrayed by Brad Pitt in Soderbergh’s trilogy. We can expect more casting news to follow in the coming weeks as pre-production gets underway on the project.
Lionsgate recently confirmed an all-female reboot of Sylvester Stallone’s action-packed franchise The Expendables, films that brought together some of the biggest action-stars in Hollywood, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis.
