For those of you who have embraced the world of legal online streaming, you’ll probably know there’s somewhat of a turf war between Netflix and Amazon, with both investing heavily in new original TV and movie content.
Though it’s unfair to claim one has the upper hand when it comes to original TV content, Netflix is pretty much running away with it at the moment with shows including House of Cards, Better Call Sal and Daredevil – but that may all be about to change.
Amazon, who runs an Instant Video platform similar to Netflix, is starting to invest heavily in exclusive TV shows in order to take back a larger portion of the subscriptions market – firstly by signing a record-breaking deal with former BBC Top Gear trio Clarkson, Hammond and May for a new motoring series.
With subscriptions significantly boosted in anticipation for the series release, Amazon has now decided to invest in the TV Drama genre by developing a new series based on Tom Clancy’s famous spy, Jack Ryan.
Former office star, and newly discovered action hero, John Krasinski, is said to be in advanced talks with Amazon, who are looking to produce an original storyline based on the exploits of the CIA spy. Though no official greenlight has been given, or released to the public, the programme will be produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and co-written by some of the minds behind LOST.
Should the project get the go-ahead, it would certainly put Amazon back on level par with Netflix as they continue their battle for viewing figures.
