Great news coming out of Hollywood for fans of the Netflix original series Daredevil – the TV giant has commissioned a spin-off series for the Punisher, who is currently appearing in the second season of the Daredevil.
The character has always been a massive fan favourite among Marvel fans and so the news of the series will certainly cause excitement, especially as Jon Bernthal has confirmed his involvement in the project as the title character.
Bernthal, who came to the attention of comic book fans in AMC’s The Walking Dead, has proven to be a great addition for Netflix, who’ve seen a substantial jump in viewing figures for Daredevil since the actor came on board for the second season.
Marvel, who have seen their film divion grow from strength to strength, are keen to invest in the TV market, that has been a focal point for rival studio DC with hit shows including Arrow and The Flash. Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb spoke of his thanks and excitement regarding the characters new spin-off series.
This comes as great news for Netflix who are battling for marketing control with rival Amazon Instant Video:
No release date has been specified yet but with production of the third season of Daredevil currently underway, we can probably expect to see Netflix’s The Punisher sometime at the end of 2017.
