‘Spectre’ Breezes Past ‘Skyfall’ With $80million First Week

It was mentioned last week that more records were certain to follow the impressive opening day return that ‘Spectre‘ took in compared to its 2012 predecessor ‘Skyfall‘, and now having reigned at the domestic (UK) box office for the past week, Daniel Craig’s fourth outing as 007 has smashed UK box office records with a cool $80 million ($64 million from the UK alone).

It’s was on the cards considering the hype that surrounded its release in the months building up to it – and with the biggest budget to date, which saw the MGM picture shut down Mexico City for a week, it had to deliver big for the studios behind the 24th installment in the hit British franchise.

Considering Bond is still to open in North American and Asia territories, where it’s proven to be an unformed able force of late, it looks promising that we’ll once again see 007 hit the billion dollar mark worldwide.

Spectre‘ sees a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind codename: SPECTRE.

Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes have already confirmed their involvement in the yet untitled ‘Bond 25‘, though the long term futures of this record breaking duo remain unclear – certainly a worrying sign for studio execs who are already planning to open big-money negotiations with the pair, but have already started to tout potential replacements should Craig step down from the role he’s held for over a decade.
